About LIO

Chris Maguire is the founder and CEO of LIO Insurance Company. Prior to LIO, he was the President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Underwriting Officer of Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) where he gained over 25 years of insurance operating experience. PHLY was publicly traded from 1993 until it was sold to the Tokio Marine Group in 2008 for $4.7 billion, a 25x increase in shareholder value. During his time at PHLY, Chris was responsible for designing and underwriting over 70 commercial property/casualty and professional liability insurance products.

Chris and his wife Ellen are active members in the philanthropic community and in 2015 founded the Ellen and Christopher Maguire Endowed Scholarship Fund for the purpose of funding scholarships at Caron for adolescents and young adults, giving many in our community hope for a brighter future. In addition, Chris serves on the board of directors for the Haverford School, the Caron Foundation, Kieve-Wavus Education and the Maguire Foundation, is a member of President’s Advisory Council of Villanova University and the Chairman of The Cobbs Creek Restoration Board.

The quality of the customer experience is defined from the perspective of the customer….how they “feel” about the encounter, and what kind of impression it leaves on them. It is this understanding that Seth will use to help fuel the customer experience strategy at LIO Insurance. Prior to leading the customer experience at LIO, he spent 20+ years overseeing service operations and driving the customer experience strategy for Philadelphia Insurance Companies and CIGNA International. In both experiences, Seth was able to develop and implement robust, and very successful Voice of the Customer Programs. He is passionate about understanding the true customer experience, and cutting through the noise to make that experience effective, efficient and memorable – ensuring a positive customer experience… consistently.
Seth lives with his wife and four children (Logan, Addison, Landon and Emerson) in Wynnewood, PA. He is constantly seeking out adventurous endurance races which has brought him to places such as Scotland, Hawaii and Iceland. Seth is an 8-time Ironman finisher including the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

LIO’s CFO Rhonda is known for tackling every challenge with a smile and a positive attitude. She loves to laugh and takes joy in untangling even the most complex financial problems which is why she’s also well regarded for her outside-the-box thinking and skills as an accountant. A famous Winston Churchill saying provides a daily source of inspiration for Rhonda: “Some see difficulty in every opportunity. Others see opportunity in every difficulty.” Prior to joining LIO, she served as Chief Risk Officer for Houston International Insurance Group, Ltd. (HIIG), where she was a member of the Executive Committee and led the company’s ERM Committee. Throughout her career, Rhonda has meticulously managed sophisticated financial reporting and due diligence systems.

Rhonda is a Certified Public Accountant and earned her bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University with honors in Accounting and Finance. She lives in Houston, Texas, and in her free time, spends time with her husband Greg and her two children, Kemper and Ingrid.

Tech is business, business is tech. As Chief Information Officer, Jeff ensures the goals and objectives of the organization are represented and enabled seamlessly in the technology. He believes IT is not an island, there is not a wall, it is woven into the fabric of any successful company. Before coming to LIO, Jeff spent most of his career helping large organizations resolve the disconnect between IT and business and learned a few simple lessons after 20+ years. First, technology cannot fix a flawed business strategy. Second, implementing cool technology is not a business strategy. Lastly, do the hard work up front and avoid technical debt at all costs.

Jeff and his wife Julianna are empty nesters living in Sammamish, Washington after raising two amazing kids, Zack and Alexa. Spare time outside of the start-up life is balanced across great food and wine with friends and then working it off in the gym or hitting the heavy bag.

Actuarial Services is considered by many non-actuaries to be an oxymoron, but at LIO the Services come first. Jim is a solution-oriented actuary, focusing on what can and should be done – not what can’t – aided by the technical education required to become a Fellow of the Casualty Actuary Society. With 30+ years in actuarial roles, including 10+ as the Chief Actuary and Chief Risk Officer at Philadelphia Insurance Companies and Tokio Marine North America, Jim has the knowledge, skills, experience, and vision to lead LIO’s Enterprise Risk Management, Pricing, and Reserving functions. Jim is a former Olympic distance triathlete, an aspiring woodworker, and a wannabe chef, not to mention an avid football tailgater. Jim is the proud father of Colleen – also an actuary – and shares a home in Chester Springs, PA with his wife, Nicole, and their four-legged and furry daughter, Sophie.

Mike McCormick serves as the Chief Property Claims Officer at LIO Insurance Company. Prior to joining LIO, he served as a Property Technical Specialist and General Adjuster for The Travelers Insurance Companies. Mike brings extensive technical skills to the LIO Property Claims Department, in addition to the soft skills that he has developed over years from directly working with insureds in their time of need. He has traveled the country handling complex catastrophe claims. Mike believes that when the claims process meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations, it can have a lasting impression and can be a major competitive differentiator in the eyes of that customer.

Sales and marketing has been Matt’s calling from his college days selling books door-to-door. Making connections with people through delivering superior products and service is what gets him fired up. Matt has spent his 20+ year insurance career exploring niche product development and all the channels of distribution. From Federated Mutal to Philadelphia Insurance Companies and Global Indemnity, he has developed an extensive view of what the customer is looking for. Meeting the needs of customers, with the best team in insurance, makes LIO the perfect home for him.
Matt lives with his wife and three children (Addison, Grayson, and Everly) in El Dorado Hills, CA. They enjoy being active while traveling whenever possible. Regular trips over the years visiting friends in Greece has been a highlight.
